Privacy Policy

Last updated: 18 August 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data when you interact with Budy through our website or mobile app.

Who we are

Budy is operated by Budy Group Limited (company number 15555439), Eighth Floor, 6 New Street Square, New Fetter Lane, London EC4A 3AQ, United Kingdom — see our Impressum. We act as the data controller for your personal data. Contact us at info@budy.life — we respond within 5 working days.

What data we collect

Why we collect it (legal basis)

Who we share it with

We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or hand it to anyone for their own purposes. We use a small number of service providers who process data only on our instructions, under contract:

Our former research studies also used Prolific, Tally and a video conferencing provider. Those studies ended in July 2026 and we no longer send them any data.

Where data is stored

Your name, your gender, your own actions and your session history stay on your device and are never uploaded. Any data we do receive — website sign-ups and anonymous app analytics — is stored on UK or EEA servers where possible; app analytics are held on PostHog's EU infrastructure. Where a provider is based outside the UK/EEA, we rely on standard contractual safeguards. We limit internal access to those who need it.

How long we keep it

Up to 12 months from collection, unless you ask us to delete it earlier or law requires longer.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive a copy of your data, and withdraw consent at any time. Email info@budy.life — we respond within 30 days. To delete your data, see Request data deletion, which explains what we hold and what we can remove. You can also make a data protection complaint directly to us. Please see the "Data protection complaints" section below. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office.

App usage analytics are anonymous and carry no identifier we can link to you, so we cannot locate or delete an individual's events on request. Deleting the app stops further events; existing ones age out within 12 months. The exception is events recorded during our former research study, which carry a Prolific participant ID — those we can delete if you send us the ID.

Data protection complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, you can make a data protection complaint directly to us by emailing info@budy.life. Please include enough information for us to understand the issue and investigate it.

We will acknowledge receipt of your complaint within 30 days. We will investigate it without undue delay, keep you informed where appropriate, and explain the outcome once our investigation is complete.

If you remain dissatisfied, you have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk). If you are in the European Union, you can instead complain to the data protection authority of the EU member state where you live or work — in Germany, the supervisory authority of your federal state (Landesdatenschutzbehörde); the BfDI keeps a list at bfdi.bund.de. Under the EU GDPR you have the same rights as set out above.

Other

Budy is not intended for anyone under 16. When we materially update this policy, we'll change the date above and notify you in-app or by email.
